When Bishop John Doerfler published his pastoral plan for our diocese to form Spirit-filled Evangelizers, he asked his department directors to give a brief witness talk to the Curia staff of a personal encounter with Jesus Christ. That invitation got me thinking about how most of my encounters with the Big Guy are not, at least initially, very story-worthy. If I was going to share a personal encounter, I needed it to be a story that left little room for doubt about the real presence of Christ in the encounter.

In the last 15 years of his life, Don Stanley established a trust to protect his assets and make sure those assets would be distributed according to his wishes. Among his wishes were to honor his Catholic faith by creating a legacy of care for seminarians and social services in the Upper Peninsula.
