The pastor and staff of St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Rapid River are finding creative ways to minister to parishioners during the stay-at-home order.
Michelle Loper, Parish secretary and faith formation coordinator, has been keeping parishioners updated. "I've been sending out group texts and posting on Facebook to let parishioners know about happenings during this time. Finance Council president Roy Paquette stared a telephone tree for parishioners who do not have social media. We've also sent mailings to let people know the Parish is here for them. The response has been great!"
The pastor, Fr. Joseph Vandannoor, continues to celebrate daily Mass in the Church for all the Mass intentions. On Easter Sunday, parishioners drove to the Church parking lot and Fr. Joseph prayed with each carload of people and blessed them.
On Divine Mercy Sunday, the image of Divine Mercy was displayed outside in the parking lot. Fr. Joseph offered a time of Eucharistic Adoration, and then blessed each car in the parking lot. "People were happy to see each other even though it was through car windows. It offered a sense of parish community which we all are desperately seeking at this time," says Michelle.
Michelle has been pleased with how her family has been praying the Rosary daily in their home. "My son likes to lead the family in saying the Rosary." Michelle's children attend Holy Name Catholic School in Escanaba. "Being away from our school family is challenging. We're watching EWTN regularly. While these are trying times, a lot of good can come of them, if we lean on Jesus!" she says.
